Carson's Stats - 2 years 6 months

It has been WAY too long since I have documented Carson's stats. So long in fact, I have no idea when I did it last. I see my friend, Valerie, doing it every month for her little ones. And each time she does it, I tell myself I will do it! It is such a great way to document great memories to look back at later. Sure, the pictures are fun to look back at, but I want to remember it all!! So, with that, I am going to try real hard to keep this up!  Valerie, hope you don't mind...my creative juices aren't flowing so I am going "flatter" you :-)

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

2 Years and 6 months

Carson, you marked 2 years and 6 months of your wonderful life on September 27, 2010. I can not believe it has only been 2.5 yrs. The ways in which our lives have changed because of you amaze me. I can not imagine life without you...and never want to try. You bring your Daddy and I so much joy. We thank God for His greatest blessing each and every day. We love to sit quietly and watch you. We find ourselves doing that often these days. It just amazes us what you can do!

HEIGHT/WEIGHT

We went to your 2.5 year check up last week and you were 39 inches tall and 38 lbs!! You are still off the charts in the > 95 percentile (they stop tracking at 95%). At your 2 year appointment the doctor estimated you will be 6'5". We will see. At this rate, that is certainly possible. You have been measuring >95% pretty much since birth. I think there have only been 1-2 visits where you dropped down to the 90-95% in some categories. You have outgrown all of your Spring/Summer clothes. Mommy is eagerly awaiting the cool weather so you don't look silly with your short shirts and shorts. Ha! Mommy bought you 4T/5T shirts for Fall/Winter but soon switched to 5T/5 because the 4T shirts are almost too small already! You are wearing 3T/4T pants since you are still fairly thin through the middle. You are long and lean! I have not taken you to get measured for your fall shoes yet. Last spring you were wearing 9.5 Extra Wide shoes from Stride Rite. Your toes are getting closer to the end of the shoe so its time to take another trip to the outlet mall. That is the only way I can afford your shoes since your feet are so wide. Even with outlet shopping they are still $45++. Let's hope your feet have narrowed a bit since they don't make extra wide beyond size 9.5.

NEW TRICKS

Carson, you have been learning a lot lately! So much, in fact, its hard for Daddy and I to keep up. Just last week at dinner, you started to count to ten in Spanish! You have mastered numbers 1-10 in English and count all the time. You also count to 20 very well. We just didn't know you were learning it in Spanish at school. I was able to capture this clip on my cell phone.

We have been working on potty training with you for a few months. It has taken a while, to no fault of your own. We have not been as diligent as we should be. We will keep trying though! You are very good at going "pee pee potty" first thing in the morning and before bath time. All other times in between are hit or miss. You recognize when you need to go and tell us, but usually that is too late. You enjoy the little pieces of candy you get when you do go on the potty though :-)

Your favorite sport right now is football, understandably. Although you still play with your basketball, bat, and golf clubs frequently. You tend to reach for your Cowboys' football more often these days. You love to put on your Cowboys' helmet and play catch with Daddy. You are getting better every day!

FAVORITE FOODS

I love that you are not a picky eater. I know how difficult that can be for parents. You pretty much each just about anything we put in front of you. Your favorites lately have been:
Yogurt
Applesauce
Mandarin Oranges
Yogurt Raisins
Green Beans
Bratworst (you call it hot dogs) -
likely because Mommy is craving this a lot during Haley's prengancy!

FAVORITE BOOKS

You absolutely LOVE books. We have story time every night before bed and you generally pick out the same books each night. Daddy and I try and trick you to rotate those out occasionally. Your favorites include:
On Top of Spaghetti - A Silly Song Book
All About Horses
Bible Stories
Touch and Feel Dinosaurs

FAVORITE TOYS/ACTIVITIES:
  • You are still pretty obsessed with Thomas the Train and anything to do with trains. You still play with your train table a lot.
  • You love to play playdough
  • You often play with your tool box and take the hammer to anything you see has a nail in it.
  • Anything to do with sports and balls are still at the top of your list. You are getting pretty skilled with your football and soccer ball lately. Golfing and baseball have pretty much been banned as "indoor" activities. You are too skilled and strong to hit those in the house now.
  • You always ask to ride your scooter when we get home from school. This neighborhood we are in is great. There is always kids playing on their scooters, bikes and throwing the football in the streets. Many evenings we go out and ride your scooter while waiting for Daddy to come home
  • Although we try not to put you in front of the TV very often, you do enjoy to drink your morning milk in Mommy and Daddy's bed while we are getting ready for the day. While in bed, you will watch DVR'd episodes of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and Chuggington. And then, there is always Thomas the Train!
  • Your favorite movie to watch is Boppin' with the Bug Band which is in the Word World collection by PBS kids. You laugh out loud constantly! Mommy is looking to buy you more of these movies since they teach you about your letters and how to sound out and spell words.
  • You love anything and everything to do with school buses, firetrucks and ambulances. You count all the school buses on the way to and from school each day. And you get super excited every time we pass the fire station.
  • And finally, you love music! Mommy bought a new Sunday School Songs CD and your favorites are (with your pronunciation in parenthisis): Jesus Loves me (Jesus Heart), Jesus Loves the Little Children (Jesus' Children), In the Lord's Army (Zoom over the Enemy), and Deep and Wide. Mamaw started you out early learning these songs. Mommy just loves to watch you in the rear view mirror as you sing the songs to yourself. You know just about every word!!
DISLIKES
There isn't much that you dislike. You are pretty good about eating your meals, taking a bath, going to bed, etc. You have been on a pretty good routine for a long time that these daily activities are pretty easy. However, we did recently learn that you are developing fears. You have woken up a few times lately with bad dreams. Most of the time we can not decipher what you are dreaming about, but its obvious that you are having a bad dream. And just the other day, Daddy and I learned that we can not have just anything playing on the TV while you are around. We were watching an episode of Hawaii 5-0 when there was a scene where they threw a bad guy into the ocean with sharks. You immediately started screaming and crying telling us "Sharks! Big Teeth! Bite You". Oh goodness!! I hope we haven't scarred you for life my dear! As soon as we found the remote, the TV was turned off and we explained to you that sharks have big teeth because they are big fish. And they have to have big teeth to eat their hamburgers and hot dogs like you. That seemed to calm him down quickly. That is all that came to mind at the time. Lesson Learned - screen ALL TV time, even when Carson doesn't appear to be paying attention.

DAILY ROUTINE
Monday - Friday you wake between 5:45-6:30 am. Usually your internal alarm sounds between 6-6:05 am. Recently you wake Mommy and Daddy up by yelling, "WAKE UP MOMMY/DADDY" or "WAKE UP TIME". We hear you loud and clear since we have a baby monitor next to our bed. You then enjoy your morning milk in Mommy and Daddy's bed while we are getting ready for the day. While in bed, you will watch DVR'd episodes of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and Chuggington. After getting ready and eating breakfast we are off to school around 7:45 am. Your school day is full of many activities, depending on the day of the week. Your daily acitivies inlcude:
- Circle time where you learn songs, letters, numbers, days of the week, months of the year (both in English and Spanish)
- Montesorri time where you work one on one with the Guides and various skills
- Arts and Crafts,etc.
Differently weekly activities include Yoga, Dance, learning about musical instruments, etc.

Mommy or Daddy will pick you up between 5-5:30. After outside playtime, we eat dinner around 6-6:30. After dinner time its usually Daddy-Carson time which inlcudes basketball, football, baseball, you name it. And of course - horsey time! This is where Daddy lets you ride on his back like a horse and you say, "Go, Daddy, Go!" And finally, its bath time, story time, prayer time, music time, and bed time before turning the lights off between 7:45-8pm.

Your routine on the weekend is pretty much the same in terms of wake up an bed time. Daddy and I have arranged where he wakes up with you Saturdays and I get to sleep in. And then we switch on Sundays. You always take great naps on the weekends which last 1.5-2.5 hours. And lately, Mommy and Daddy have joined you. That is always fun when we take a family nap together! Saturdays and Sundays have been "Game Days" lately. Carson gets a bit confused as to which one is Gator Game Day and Cowboys Game Day. Either way, he enjoys it!

MOMENTS I DON'T WANT TO FORGET
  • You have a new game where you say "Achoo" or make Mommy say it and we go back and forth like so:
Mommy:  Achoo!
Carson: Bless You!
Mommy: Thank you!
Carson: You're Welcome!
And then we do it all over again - this time with you saying Achoo!
  • You walked into the house the other night and hit your head on the door and you said, "Mommy, Carson needs Head Boo Boo Medicine". Lately you have had different ailments such as a stye (eye medicine), teething (teeth medicine), etc. that have required special medicine. So this made perfect sense to me.
  • Anytime you talk to or about your baby sister, Haley. When someone asks about the baby, whether they are talking directly to me or Carson, he speaks up loudly and proudly and tells them, " Baby Sister ("Baby Sitter")..."Baby Haley" and then gives my tummy a hug.. You can tell you are so proud.
  • I was laying in bed this morning with you and I had the remote on my belly and noticed that Haley was kicking it. You are a little too impatient to keep your hand on my belly long enough to feel her move, but you sure enjoyed watching the remote jiggle on my belly each time she moved. You wer giggling and it was too cute!
  • We were working on your bed time prayer with your prayer bear last night and when we were done and I put the bear on your night stand you said, "Nite Nite Jesus". That just melted my heart.  No where in the prayer does it say "Jesus". I love that you are able to connect prayer with Jesus.
CARSONISMS
  • When you want Mommy or Daddy to snuggle with you, you say, "Hold you"
  • You say, "Pat back" and put our hand on your back or the back of your leg before bed time or nap time.
  • When Luke takes his medicine, you tell him, "Good Boy Luke"
  • You open the sliding door for Luke and tell him, "Go Potty Luke" while pointing outside. And when he comes inside you tell him, "Good Boy Luke"
  • You say, "Jesus Heart" while pointing to your heart - Meaning, Jesus is in my heart.
  • You smell our feet and fall back on the ground while waving your hand before your nose and squealing "stinky, stinky". You get a kick out of us doing the same to you. This is one we can thank Uncle Phillip for. He taught you this months ago, and you just get a kick out of it!
  • If we ask you what day of the week it is, regardless of the day, its "Game Day!" I suppose we have been asking that a bit too much on the weekends.
  • You share Mommy and Daddy's love for the Gators and the Cowboys. However, you get a bit confused on Saturdays and Sundays. You frequently yell out, "Go Cowboys!" while doing the Gator Chomp :-)

This is you now.... Wearing your hat on backwards is all you. You love to wear your hat!
