Just wanted to update you on the latest regarding Carson's mega belly button (umbilical hernia). We went to see a Pediatric Surgeon on Tuesday and he suggested that we go ahead with the surgery to repair it. He didn't think it was likely to repair itself as most umbilical hernias do. With his the size that it is, the longer we wait the larger it gets and the more his skin will stretch. The more the skin stretches the less likely it will go back to normal and the surgery would require more repair. So Brian and I decided to move forward with the surgery on December 31st. The good news is the recovery is only 48 hours on average. The doctor also assured us the risk of anesthesia related complications are very low and were actually higher for an adult than someone his age.

And I promise I didn't pose him...it just so happened that I took the picture while he was pointing at his belly button. Ha!
If anyone has any advice to share that has gone through a surgery of this type with their little one or knows of someone who has, we would love to hear about that experience.
